Frequently Asked Questions

Who is a good candidate for microblading?

Good candidates have normal to dry skin, no active skin conditions in the brow area, are not pregnant or nursing, and are not on Accutane or blood thinners. Oily skin can work but may require more frequent touch-ups. A consultation confirms your candidacy.

Who should NOT get microblading?

You should avoid microblading if you are pregnant or nursing, on Accutane (or within 6 months of stopping), taking blood thinners, have keloid scarring, have fresh or healing scars in the brow area, or have a history of severe reactions to tattoo pigments.

Can I get microblading if I have oily skin?

Yes, but with considerations. Oily skin can cause pigment to blur slightly and fade faster than normal or dry skin. You may need more frequent touch-ups (every 12-18 months instead of 18-24 months). A skilled artist adjusts technique for oily skin types.

Can microblading cover scars in my eyebrows?

Yes, most scars can be worked with. Fine line and sunken (atrophic) scars typically take pigment well. Raised hypertrophic scars require slower, more careful work. Keloid scars are generally not recommended for microblading without dermatologist approval.

Can I get microblading if I have alopecia?

Absolutely. Many clients with alopecia (or hair loss from chemotherapy recovery) are excellent candidates. Microblading can create realistic, natural-looking brow hair strokes even with no existing hair. It can be incredibly meaningful for clients recovering from medical hair loss.

Is microblading safe during pregnancy?

No, microblading is not recommended during pregnancy or while nursing. Hormonal changes can affect healing and pigment retention. I recommend waiting until after you have finished nursing to ensure the best results.

How long after Accutane can I get microblading?

You must wait at least 6 months after completing Accutane treatment. Accutane significantly affects skin healing and can lead to poor pigment retention or scarring. This waiting period is for your safety and results.

What should I do before my microblading appointment?

Avoid alcohol and drugs 24-48 hours before your appointment (they cause excessive pigment fading). Do not wax or tweeze brows for at least 1 week prior. You can wear your normal brow makeup to the appointment - it helps me understand your preferred look.

Understanding Microblading Candidacy

Not everyone is an ideal candidate for microblading, and that is okay. With nearly 10 years of focused expertise and over 3,500 treatments, I have learned that being honest about candidacy upfront leads to happier clients and better results. This quiz is designed to give you the same assessment I would give during a consultation.

Skin Type Matters

Your skin type significantly affects how well microblading pigment retains. Normal and dry skin typically hold pigment best, with results lasting 18-24 months between touch-ups. Oily skin can still get beautiful results, but the pigment may blur slightly over time and fade faster, requiring more frequent maintenance.

Health Considerations

Certain health conditions and medications affect healing and pigment retention. Blood thinners increase bleeding during the procedure, which pushes pigment out. Accutane thins the skin and affects healing. Pregnancy and nursing involve hormonal changes that can lead to unpredictable results. These are not permanent disqualifiers - just timing considerations.

The Commitment Factor

Microblading is a two-appointment process. The initial session creates your brows, but the touch-up at 6-8 weeks is where we perfect them. Skipping the touch-up is like skipping the second coat of paint - you will not get the full result. I also need clients who will follow the aftercare protocol for 14 days. Aftercare is part of the result, not just a suggestion.

What If You Are Not a Candidate?

If this quiz indicates microblading may not be right for you right now, do not be discouraged. Many disqualifying factors are temporary - waiting out an Accutane cycle, letting a scar heal, or waiting until after nursing. Others may just need a consultation to discuss your specific situation. I would rather be upfront than have you invest in something that will not give you the results you deserve.
